I bring you greetings from the Counselor Educators and Researchers Department at Career Convergence. I am proud to announce that I will serve as the new associate editor for this department. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the previous associate editor, Chad Luke, for his tenure with Career Convergence and his efforts at building and leading this department. There are very large shoes for me to fill. From one Chad to another, thank you!
I currently work as an Associate Professor in the Counselor Education Program at North Carolina Central University (NCCU). I have recently served as the Coordinator for the Career Counseling Program at the University, and I have taught both the introductory and advanced career counseling/career development courses at NCCU for over 15 years. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor as well as a licensed K-12 school counselor in North Carolina.
I am excited to join the Career Convergence team and I wanted to take this month’s column to not only introduce myself, but to extend a specific invitation to you to submit an article for publication in this department.
Specifically, I would like to receive articles that focus on the following questions:
Counselor preparation: Do you have any specific thoughts, ideas, methods, or approaches regarding the preparation, training, or supervision of counselors? Have you discovered anything that might benefit the field and other counselor educators?
Career course content: If you teach (or have taught in the past) a career development course, do you have any lessons, approaches, activities, or helpful “tidbits” that may be useful to other counselor educators?
Research trends: If you are engaged in any type of career development research, would you be interested in sharing what you are doing? Would you care to write about any trends that you have noticed within career development research? Is there anything that you have learned that you think would benefit the field? How about single subject/case examples?
Advocacy efforts to promote the teaching of career development: Have you experienced anything in your career that clearly supports and demonstrates the necessity for career counselor training for all counselors? All of us who are well-steeped in the career development field have no doubt about this necessity. As an instructor, however, teaching future counselors (all types of counselors) about this necessity….well, let’s just say that sometimes it takes a little convincing and little bit of “you’ll understand later” response. What have you learned or used that might help other counselor educators?
Although I have provided some specific questions, please feel free to submit other ideas and articles that you think may be of interest to readers of this department. I invite you to get in touch with me to discuss your thoughts or ideas for articles, help with brainstorming, or draft submissions. I can be reached at croyal@nccu.edu. Submissions are accepted on an ongoing basis. Make sure to review the Submission Guidelines before submitting your first draft.
I look forward to hearing from you!
