Dr. Vernon Zunker 1927-2021

NCDA is sad to share that Dr. Vernon Zunker, author of several popular career textbooks passed away in March.

His books include, Career Counseling: A Holistic Approach, and Using Assessment Results for Career Development. He was also known for his innovative efforts to show the connection between career and mental health, particularly in his work, Career, Work, and Mental Health: Integrating Career and Personal Counseling which was reviewed in NCDA's web magazine.  His works are referenced in several NCDA publications, including Gaining Cultural Competence in Career Counseling (Evans & Sejuit, 2021), A Comprehensive Guide to Career Assessment (Stoltz & Barclay, 2019) and Teaching Career Development (Osborn, 2016).

In 2011, Dr. Zunker received the Presidential Recognition award from NCDA for his significant contributions in shaping counseling and psychology students’ understanding of career counseling theory and practice.

He was a warm, gentle colleague, professor, and friend to all he encountered.
