What is the Certified Clinical Supervisor of Career Counseling credential?

This credential is intended for individuals who are trained for or experienced in the delivery of clinical supervision to career counselors and other practitioners who provide career services.  It is aligned to the competencies addressed in NCDA’s Career Practitioner Supervision training as well as state requirements.

 

Who is eligible for the CCSCC?

The Credentialing Commission has revised the eligibility requirements for the Certified Clinical Supervisor of Career Counseling after a careful review.  This revision came after receiving numerous inquiries from our members.  Many members have dedicated many years to the supervision of career counselors and have met all criteria except for the required "university supervision course in the past 6 years."  We wanted to recognize those supervisor applicants that have contributed many more years in their professional life to the supervision of career counselors. 

 

Eligibility Requirements:

 

Individuals who have a master’s degree in counseling or a master’s degree in a related field are eligible, AND

• Individuals who have successfully completed the National Career Development Association’s 45 Hour Clinical Supervision Training  - OR -
• Individuals who have completed a 30 contact hour university course in clinical supervision at the graduate level  
  - OR -
• Individuals who have a minimum of 3 years (900 hours) of documented experience providing clinical supervision

What is the Certified Clinical Supervisor of Career Counseling) credential?

If I have successfully completed the National Career Development Association 45 Hour Clinical Supervision Training, how can I obtain the credential?

You will upload a copy of your NCDA certificate of completion, register for and complete the online application and payment. NCDA staff will verify that you have completed the training and provide the credential. 

 

If I have not successfully completed the National Career Development 45 Hour Clinical Supervision Training, how can I obtain the credential?

There are two other methods by which you can obtain the credential:

If you have taken a 30-contact hour university course in clinical supervision at the graduate level, you will register for and complete the online application and payment.  You will submit a university transcript of the course, a transcript documenting the completion of a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling or other related field, a resume/vita documenting a minimum of five years’ experience in career counseling or delivery of career services, and a list of 20 professional development contact hours in career development and/or supervision completed within the last five years.  The list should include workshop or presentation titles and providers. After your application is reviewed and verified as complete, you will be provided with directions on how to submit a 30 minute video of a supervisory session and your written self-evaluation of your behaviors in the video. A list of the criteria to be addressed in your self-evaluation will be provided.

 

If you have a minimum of three years (900 hours) experience providing clinical supervision, you will register for and complete the online application and payment. You will submit a transcript documenting the completion of a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling or other related field, letters from supervisors documenting a minimum of three years’ experience in supervision (approximately 900 hours), a resume/vita documenting a minimum of five years’ experience in career counseling or delivery of career services, and a list of 20 professional development contact hours in career development and/or supervision completed within the last five years.  The list should include workshop or presentation titles and providers. After your application is reviewed and verified, you will be provided with directions to submit a 30 minute video of a supervisory session and your written self-evaluation of your behaviors in the video. A list of the criteria to be addressed in your self-evaluation will be provided.

 

What are the steps to apply for the CCSCC if I have successfully completed the 45 hour NCDA training in Career Practitioner Supervision?

The application is online and includes these steps:

1. Contact & Demographic Information - Tell us how to reach you and give us demographic information that can be used for research purposes.

2. Training Verification - The applicant must provide evidence of completion of training by uploading a copy of your training Certificate of Completion.

3. Attestations - You will be asked to attest that your work is your own and that you have read the NCDA Code of Ethics and will abide by it.  Click here to read the NCDA Code of Ethics 2015 now.

4. Application Fee - The application fee is $175. Individuals whose applications are denied will not receive a refund.  Fees are collected by PayPal.
   
   
5. Verification by NCDA staff - NCDA staff will verify that all information has been completed and you have met the requirements.  Your application will then be sent to a reviewer.

6. Certification - You will receive notice by email and your certificate will be included.  The certification is valid for three years. To maintain the credential, you must pay an annual maintenance fee and recertify at the end of the three-year period.

 

What are the steps to apply if I have taken a 30 contact hour university course in clinical supervision?

The directions and the application are online.  The application includes these steps:

1. Contact & Demographic Information - Tell us how to reach you and give us demographic information that can be used for research purposes.

2. Documents - You will be asked to provide:

• Transcript of the university supervision course.
• Transcript documenting the completion of a master’s degree or higher in counseling or other closely related field
• Resume/vita documenting a minimum of five years’ experience in career counseling or delivery of career services
• List of 20 continuing education contact hours in career development and/or supervision completed within the last five years. List should include workshop or presentation titles and providers.

3. Video of Supervisory Session - You will be provided directions for recording a 30 minute video of a supervisory session.  You will be asked to submit both the recording and an accompanying written self-evaluation of your behaviors on the video.  A list of criteria to be used for the self-evaluation will be provided.  Note:  You must acquire a consent form from your supervisee.

• Resume/vita documenting a minimum of five years’ experience in career counseling or delivery of career services

• Documentation by your supervisor(s) that you have provided a minimum of three years (900) hours of clinical supervision.

What if I don’t pass?

Those who do not pass their first attempt (video and written self-evaluation), may submit a second video and evaluation within one month.  If the second review of competency is also unsuccessful, the applicant must wait one year to reapply and pay the fee.

 

How do I keep my credential up-to-date?

The certification will be in effect for a three (3) year period. After holding the credential for one year, the certificant must pay a maintenance fee of $40.00 for one year (or $50 for two years). The certificant must complete thirty (30) continuing education contact hours in career development by the end of this 3-year period (essentially 10 hours per year). At the end of this period, the credential holder will be notified via email that it is time to recertify and may have an opportunity to provide documentation of CEs. Recertification will be automatic if fees are paid annually and sufficient CE hours have been earned.

What do I need to know to use the application software?

Here are a few tips to help you through the online credential application process:

1. The first step is to complete the NCDA form. Then you will be given a link to create an account in the credentialing software program.
2. The process of applying for a credential has two major parts: demographics and scenarios. First, complete and submit Section 1 (general demographic information and uploading certificates of completion). Then complete the assessment portion (scenarios).

 

I’m ready!  How can I apply for the CCSCC?

You do not have to complete the entire application at one time, but you must submit it within 90 days of starting it.
