Zoom Tips & Etiquette for Conference Attendees
Zoom will be used for the Constituency Groups/Small Group Discussions Live Event on Thursday, July 16 from 1:00 - 2:30. On Tuesday 7/14, please check the email you used when registering for the conference for a link to this special event (be sure to check your spam folder as well!)
Participants are encouraged to review the following tips for the most enjoyable Zoom experience.
- Mute your microphone To help keep background noise to a minimum, make sure you mute your microphone when you are not speaking.
- Be mindful of background noise When your microphone is not muted, avoid activities that could create additional noise, such as shuffling papers, dogs barking, traffic, fans, etc.
- Use the chat function to ask questions, share comments, engage with your fellow career practitioners and let us know if you’re having tech issues
- Position your camera properly If you choose to use a web camera, be sure it is in a stable position and focused at eye level, if possible. Doing so helps create a more direct sense of engagement with other participants.
- Lighting matters! If you appear dark on your video, you may be backlit. Having an extra nearby lamp is usually helpful, just make sure the light is in front of you, not behind you. If a window is behind you, or to the side, shut your blinds if possible.
- Turn off your video if you are having connectivity problems to save bandwidth. A few other tips: disconnect & reconnect your wi-fi, or use a wired connection if possible. Log off & back on if your issues persist. Use your computer to access video, while simultaneously dialing in by phone for the audio.
- Practice your Zoom skills prior to the start of the meeting
