NCDA Announces Newly Revised Mission Statement

By Deneen Pennington, NCDA Executive Director

The NCDA Board of Directors met in San Antonio, Texas in late October for its annual retreat.  Cheri Butler, current NCDA President, gathered “Team NCDA” to update the NCDA Mission Statement and many of the existing guidelines and policies posted on the website.

The Board revealed the newly revised the Mission Statement:

NCDA inspires and empowers the achievement of career and life goals by providing professional development, resources, standards, scientific research, and advocacy.

The Board also confirmed the current Tag Line, which fits closely with the Mission Statement:

Inspiring Careers – Empowering Lives

The Board discussed the need for a short, concise “elevator speech” to describe NCDA.  They explored the need to not have one statement for the public and a different statement for members.  Thus the combined statement finally evolved. The new Mission Statement was posted on the website in early November.

“Team NCDA,” Cheri’s presidential theme for the Board, met in San Antonio in preparation for the annual NCDA Career Development Conference, which is scheduled for June 30-July 2, 2011. The NCDA Board members will meet again at the beginning of the conference, as well as joining a teleconference call on January 6, 2011. Board members' contact information and meeting minutes are posted on the website under About NCDA.
