Celeste currently works with the Virginia Community College System providing training and support to their state-wide career coaching program for students in high schools and community colleges.  Her education career includes classroom teaching and roles as a school counselor and career counselor in high schools and a technical center.  As part of a team of career counselors, she worked to establish the first career counseling program in Hanover County Public Schools in Virginia and was instrumental in creating the first county-wide career/curriculum fair which highlighted career and technical education options.  Her work as a career counselor also focused on connecting students to experiential learning opportunities

She served on the Advisory Council for the FCD course representing K-12 career counselors and specialists and was a major contributor to the chapter focusing on K-12 in the new curriculum. Through the years in addition to NCDA, Celeste has been involved in the Virginia Career Development Association, her local counseling association, the Virginia Counselors Association, Virginia School Counseling Association and a member of the American School Counseling Association.

Celeste earned her undergraduate degree in History from The College of William and Mary.  She currently holds teacher licensure in Virginia in the areas of Social Studies, Psychology and School Counseling.  Her master’s degree in school counseling is from Virginia Commonwealth University.  She was a National Board Certified Teacher in the school counseling area from 2006 until 2016 and was the recipient of the Secondary School Counselor of the Year award from the Virginia School Counselors Association in 2000.

In her current role with the Virginia Community College System, she has developed a training program based on the Facilitating Career Development curriculum.  Her belief in the importance of early career development interventions and career guidance for a variety of career and educational pathways drives the desire to serve the K-12 constituency and encourage membership of K-12 career professionals in NCDA.  Goals for the year include increasing awareness of the resources that NCDA provides to school career counselors and specialists, increasing involvement in conferences and professional development opportunities, and assisting members to advocate for the importance of their role in providing career services in K-12 schools.
